In the workplace, drug tests are becoming a whole lot more common. With businesses losing millions of dollars every year because they are employing drug users as workers in the workplace, it is a problem that needs solved. A drug addicted worker in the office could cause companies thousands per year per person because of the fact that they can’t be trusted or relied on. Drug addicts fend for their cravings to get high before they care about work. This could lead to the person stealing money from the company, taking too many days off, and not putting enough effort into the work.
Are Drug Tests in the Workplace Common?
Another study indicates that about 4/5 of companies (surveyed) in the United States have drug tested their employees. Quite a fair portion of them do it on a regular basis. Some companies may have bi-weekly employment drug tests and others may have it every few months. Employers are starting to utilize the employment drug tests a lot more now than before. Soon having to participate in an employment drug test regularly may become mandatory in most workplaces.
Most Common Drug Test Kit for Employers to Use
The urine test kits are definitely the most commonly used type of drug test kit available. Hair follicle tests take too long to get the results, cost too much, and the results mostly display if any drugs were used a long time ago. Saliva tests are good but only show for a few days back at most and are a little less accurate. The urine test kits fit right in the middle where they are affordable, accurate, and easy to conduct. That is why when an employment drug test is conducted, almost all the time (except the more severe situations) it is with urine test kits.
