False Positives
False positives are a result of something triggering a positive result on a drug test that is not meant to be discovered. There are many reasons why a drug test result could come back invalid. There could be a mistake done by the tester or the urine sample could get contaminated. There are also various drugs which can cause a false positive. Therefore, it looks like the person is using drugs even though they are not.
Antibiotics
Some antibiotics have the power to create a false positive. Both Penicillin and Tetracycline have been found to create a false positive for cocaine and heroin.
Diet Pills and Cold Pills
It has been found through some studies that certain diet pills can trigger a false positive. As well, cold pills, decongestants, headache pills, and more over the counter drugs have been found to cause a false positive. It has been discovered that there are hundreds of different types of legal drugs which can cause a false positive to occur.
Novocaine
While this one may be a little more obvious, Novocaine can cause a false positive on a cocaine test.
Ibuprofen
With some drug test kits, Ibuprofen can lead to a false positive for THC usage but it was said that most companies have patched this issue.
Poppy Seeds
While this may seem odd, if a large amount of poppy seeds get into one’s system, it is possible that a false positive can occur.
As you can see, some common stuff can lead to a false positive occurring on a drug test. This leads to question the reliability of drug test kits. This is also evidence that it may be better to get the sample reviewed in a lab so the drug that triggered the positive results is identified.
